Medical Studies for future doctors

medical studies

Register to train as a medical doctor in the UK. Becoming a student doctor in the United Kingdom and partnering countries comes with plenty of information to consume. Equally finding a job in the UK as a doctor coming from a developing country comes with some difficulties and we are going to address everything for you. In short, we are here to help you find a place in a UK medical university or partnering country-university provided you meet the admission requirements for the university of your chosen.

However, there are many ways to become a medical doctor with the right qualifications and preparation. The UK is home to some of the best research professionals in the world, including having two of the best medical schools in the world at large. However, there are tens if not hundreds of excellent universities in the UK offering world-class medical tuition to students from every corner of the globe. In the UK, you can study anything to do with medicine through some of the most advanced learning centres with tuition from some of the best and most advanced minds in the world in any field or subject.

What qualifications are required to join a UK medical school?

As with any other universities and institutions of higher learning, entry requirements vary from school to school. As the requirements vary, the subjects also vary equally depending on the level of study intended. You can easily join a medical course provided you have the right admission grades and most importantly the funds to fund your tuition and living costs while studying.

The first thing that happens for prospective medical students is for them to write a UK aptitude test known as BMAT and or UKCAT. You take this test a year before you will be able to join your medicine programme, provided you do well with either of these tests depending on the institution you want to study with. Students will have to keep contact with their chosen university throughout the process so they can be informed on their performances on any of the tests mentioned above. This is what will certainly help them to get to the Interview stage and level.

Getting into a medical school is purely about preparing yourself and researching to understand what format the interview will take or what type of questions students have been asked in the past. In practice, these interviews are developed and designed to bring out the best in you as compared to simple answer and question sessions.

To be honest with you, gaining entry to a medical school is not easy. If I am going to be fair with you, most medical schools and universities are looking for students with the best grades. Here is a sample of the grades likely to get you into a UK medical institution of learning;

  1. Degree qualifications – You need an undergraduate degree with a 2.1 in a science-related subject.
  2. A’ Levels – You need AAA/AAAAB at A levels, including Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and English.
  3. O’ Levels – You need to hold 6 GCSE’s with “A” grades including Chemistry, Physics, Chemistry, with at least a “B” in English, Maths
  4. International Baccalaureate – You need a total of 36 points with 6, 6, 6 at higher standings. However, biology and Chemistry are prerequisites without including the core components.
  5. Personal statements – A personal statement plays an integral role in the decision making about who gets a place. Personal statements are usually taken very seriously and are usually read and scored during the third phase of selection. Normally, the UKCAT and GCSE’s will be looked at before a personal statement. The selection process is very democratic and rigorous but considers motivation, commitment, passion, working with others, hobbies, supporting references from referees, college/school contributions and or volunteering experiences
  6. Admission test: UKAT and BMAT
  7. Interview: You have the written part which consists of multiple-choice questions and work experience from a healthcare setting.
